Every SEO company's website says roughly the same thing - data-driven, transparent, results-focused. That makes the words on the homepage almost useless for comparison. Here's what actually tells you something.
A serious agency should be able to look at your site for ten minutes and tell you something specific and true about it - a technical issue, a content gap, a keyword mismatch. If the response stays generic after you've shared your URL, that's a signal.
"Monthly reports" means nothing on its own. Ask to see a sample. You want ranking positions for your actual target keywords, traffic trends, and a plain explanation of what changed and why - not just a dashboard screenshot.
If SEO content is part of the package, ask who writes it and how they learn your business well enough to write accurately about it. Generic, templated content is easy to spot once you know to look for it - vague claims, no specific details, the same structure repeated across every page.
Anyone promising first-page rankings in a few weeks for a competitive term is either overselling or hasn't looked at the competition. A realistic timeline - several months for a genuinely competitive keyword - is usually a better sign than an aggressive one.
SEO involves testing and adjusting. An agency that's honest about a strategy not working, and can explain the adjustment, is a better long-term partner than one that only reports good news.
